Between work and home life, moms and dads have always had their hands full. Parents would be prudent to take advantage of some of the apps on the market today that promise to take some of the stress and confusion out of day-to-day mommy and daddy duties.
Balancing work and family and everything else in existence can leave even the most hardened moms and dads harried, but thankfully there are a whole host of apps available today to help make life a little bit easier for busy parents. Here are six of the best free apps on the market today for constantly on-the-go moms and dads.
Mommy Nearest provides an easy-to-navigate directory and map of family-friendly spots in major cities like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. You can search according to categories like “Fun,” “Dining,” and “Shopping” to find nearby family-oriented spots. Each listing features descriptions, insider tips, hours, contact information, price and age range, and user reviews of its respective locale. You can also search to see what places are currently featuring special deals or events.
Even if you don’t download the app, the Mommy Nearest website features articles for parents on everything from parenting, to health to travel.
UrbanSitter is a directory of over 50,000 babysitters available in 60 cities. What sets the app apart from other mobile directories is that UrbanSitter connects you with sitters who are highly rated by parents you know and trust within your school or social networks.
You can search for both last-minute sitters for the evening or full-time nannies, and narrow your search down by qualifications and criteria like CPR certification, background check, and whether or not the sitter has a vehicle. Nanny profiles also let you see stats like how many repeat families the sitter has had and the sitter’s typical response time. Whether you’re searching for a one-time or long-term sitter, UrbanSitter is a vital resource that enables parents to find trustworthy care for their kids in a timely fashion.
The Cozi app consolidates schedules, planned activities, grocery lists, and daily to-do lists into one location. The color-coded family calendar allows you to keep track of what different members of the family are doing, making it easier to plan family trips and events. You can also set reminders and send agenda emails to others to ensure that nobody misses a planned activity or appointment. Create shared to-do lists or chore lists for kids, make grocery lists, and plan out dinners for the week.
The Cozi Today feature gives you a quick view of your day’s agenda — its ability to synchronize and share across devices is perhaps one of the apps greatest perks, ensuring that busy families all stay on the same page.
Find out where there’s a playground in proximity with Playground Buddy, an app providing access to a worldwide database of over 200,000 playgrounds. The app provides directions and details about each location, and allows you to get a street view of the space before you visit. You can also share playground details with others, create a playground favorite list, and add new playgrounds not listed on the app. Whether you’re exploring a new city, on vacation, or on the road, Playground Buddy makes sure that you can always locate a place for your kids to blow off some steam.
Turn family chores into a fun competition with Chorma, an app that enables you to organize and divvy up chore duties amongst family members. Family members earn points for completing chores that can later be redeemed for awards, giving kids extra incentive to walk the dog or take out the trash. Like Cozi, Chorma can be synchronized across multiple devices so that everyone has a good sense of who needs to get what done around the house.
Don’t have time to hit the grocery store in the midst of the day’s chaos? With Instacart you can make shopping lists, order from different stores, schedule the delivery for the time of your choosing, and have the groceries brought to your door in as little as one hour. Currently the app is only available in select cities, but could be more widely available soon.
