Going on tour? By creating and curating your own app, it’s easy to take fans along for the ride.
Social Media Week wasn’t overstating their claim when they said social media has “changed music forever.” Thanks to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and more, stars can be closer to their fans than ever before.
Thanks to this pseudo-personal media, there’s never been an easier time than the present to market your band. This is a particularly good thing if your band happens to be going on tour, because touring bands need an especially good amount of publicity to maximize ticket sales. Whether you want to promote your shows or to procure the best tech support each city has to offer, social media can go a long way towards helping you achieve your goals.
There’s no doubt that pre-existing social media can be useful for getting the word out about your band. Creating your own app, however, is an even better way to help fans follow you across the state, nation, or globe.
Marketing On The Road
As early as 2010, Billboard reported that 95% of tour ticket sales were being made online. That means that as far as your tour is concerned, online marketing is an absolute must. By staying active on popular social media channels, your tour will be visible to millions of potential fans. Consider Twitter’s user-base, for instance: with more than 300 billion monthly users, Twitter alone could help you sell out your venues and then some.
That being said, no one app is likely to meet all your band’s needs. Twitter’s character limit seriously stunts the dissemination of important info, and isn’t sufficient to give fans everything they could possibly need to attend shows. While you could stretch your resources thin and try to engage with all the influential media outlets, curating an app specifically to your band’s needs might make much more sense, both in terms of budget and effective marketing.
An App Of Your Own
According to Entrepreneur, the modern musician’s success is contingent on their willingness to advocate for their own music. On a personally designed app, you can do just that. Does your band offer awesome merchandise? Create a space on your app to sell it. Do you have a hard-to-reach fanbase? By posting on your own app, rather than on social media, they’re sure to get the memo. Looking for someone to help out with the soundcheck? With the proper design, your app can help you find tech help, roadies, and anything else your show might need (did somebody say pyrotechnics?).
The point, of course, is not just to sell to your fans. Even famous singer-songwriter Adele understands the value of creating a personal app, which she uses to keep her fans up-to-date on the details of her tours, but also the details of her day-to-day life, according to the Guardian. Ultimately, these apps aren’t about the revenue they generate, but about the engagement they create, and the space they give your fans to focus on what truly matters: your music.
Live for the App-lause
There’s no need for a big-budget app like Adele’s — a simple DIY smartphone tool is all you need to make your band’s online presence go mobile. By using AppMakr, you’ll be able to create and customize an intuitive app that meets all of your band’s needs. So let loose and rock on! After this, the future is in the palms of your fans.
